Mother's Day Cards

I made two different cards for my mother and my mother-in-law – the two #one moms in mine and my husband’s lives.

My mom likes blues so I chose the Skylark paper for hers.  My mother-in-law likes purple and earth tones so I chose the Ivy Lane paper for hers.

Card #1

MATERIALS REQUIRED

PAPER – one sheet of each of the following papers: Skylark B&T Duo paper (X7177B), Kraft cardstock (Z1375), Lagoon cardstock (X5762)
INK – Sky Exclusive Inks stamp pad (Z2194)
STAMPS – A Mother’s Love (Hostess Reward stamp B1447)
EMBOSSING FOLDER – Quatrefoil (Z1926)
DIECUT – CTMH Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge (Z1686) and Cricut Artiste cartridge (Z1790)
MACHINES – Cricut machine, Cuttlebug
OTHER – Tombow Mono Adhesive (1514), Glue Pen (Z553), bone folder (Z1204), 2x2 My Acrylix Block (Y1003), My Acrylix Spritz Cleaner (1778), My Acrylix Stamp Scrubber (Z1782)

1.            Cut the card base from the Skylark B&T Duo paper using the Cricut Artiste cartridge and your Cricut machine (any version or size).  Use the card option on page 49. Cut at 5.5”.

2.            Next cut the band/label from the same page using the shift Card option.  This should be cut at 4.25” from the Kraft cardstock (or the contrasting cardstock of your choice.)

3.            Cut the “#1 Mom” phrase from the Lagoon cardstock at 2.5”.  Then cut the “Happy Mother’s Day” phrase at  1.25”.  (Both are found on page 74)

4.            Switch to the Art Philosophy cartridge.  Still using Lagoon cardstock, cut one oval at 1.25” (page 22).

5.            Change the paper back to the Kraft cardstock.  Cut the rounded edge square from page 23.  Cut at 4.25”.  Also cut the oval (page 22) at 1.5” from Kraft cardstock.

6.         a) The circle of the label can be placed in the center or offset to the right or left.  I wanted the bird and dragonfly to show, so I pre-determined the position to offset the circle. The band/label is too long to fit entirely in the embossing folder – be sure to place the part you want embossed strategically inside the Quatrefoil embossing folder.  (Remember you can’t go back and emboss the other part by running the whole piece through or it will flatten the previously embossed part.)

             b)  Fold the card, using the Bone Folder or simply fold it using the scoring marks as your guide.

7.          Using Sky ink, stamp the phrase “A family blossoms with a Mother’s love” on the Kraft oval. (You will need to use a fairly dark or intense shade of ink to ensure that it shows up on the kraft paper.) Clean your stamp. Then stamp the floral decorative corners using the Sky ink onto the rounded edge square. (I added my decorative corners after I had glued the project together because I felt that something else was needed visually.)

8.          Now you are nearly done; time to assemble all of the pieces. Glue the back of the band/label with the adhesive of your choice (I have used the Tombow  Mono Adhesive).  Place the band on the front of the card and cut the edges off (you could also wrap the edges around to the back of the card for extra interest or texture on the back.)  Glue the “#1 mom” phrase using a fine tipped glue pen and place in the circle of the band.

Glue the Kraft oval with the sentiment onto the Lagoon oval.  Adhere these to the front inside of the card.

Adhere the “Happy Mother’s Day” phrase to the Kraft rounded edge square. Then attach this to the inside right side of the card base.

9.            Sign your card with love and thanks to your wonderful mom.

Card #2

MATERIALS REQUIRED
PAPER – one sheet of each of the following papers: Ivy Lane B&T Duo paper & Ivy Lane Green (X7178B), Colonial White cardstock (1388), Kraft cardstock (Z1375)
DIECUT – CTMH Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge (Z1686) and Cricut Artiste cartridge (Z1790)
MACHINES – Cricut machine
OTHER – Tombow Mono Adhesive (1514), Glue Pen (Z553), bone folder (Z1204)

1.          Cut the card base from the Colonial White cardstock using the Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge and your Cricut machine (any version or size).  Use the card option on page 23. Cut at 5.5”.

2.            Next cut the Decorative Layer from the Kraft cardstock (page 23). Cut at 5.5”. Then cut the same item, at the same size from the Ivy Lane B&T Duo paper.

The Kraft cardstock Decorative Layer will become your frame.  (You will have four rounded squares left over to be used on a different project.)

The Ivy Lane B&T Decorative Layer becomes the three boxes in your frame.  (Two from the purple side of the paper, one from the green.)  You will have one frame left over.  I cut the image this way so that the rounded boxes fit exactly inside the windows of the frame.  You could also just cut three square pieces and tape or glue them to the back of the frame.  It depends on how you want to layer or connect these items.

3.          Switch to the Artiste cartridge.  Press the shift key to get the “#1 Mom” text option and cut the text at 2.5” out of the Ivy Lane Green cardstock.

4.          Using the Bone Folder or just using the scoring marks to guide you, fold the card base in half.

5.           Attach the frame to the card base using adhesive of your choice.  I used the Tombow Mono Adhesive. Then adhere the rounded edge squares into the windows of the frame. Finally, glue the phrase into the last remaining window.  I used the fine tip Glue Pen to ensure that each of the fine details was glued down (and so as not to have any glue showing or leaking through the openings).

6.            Stamp or cut a sentiment for the inside of the card and voila – you are done!
